Visual Poetry NIght: Open Call
Southnord's VISUAL POETRY offering during the artfest at Kulturhuset on 27 October was curated in collaboration with The Poetic Phonotheque. We invited all visual poets of African descent in the Nordic region to submit their poetic contributions in the form of animations, experimental short films, video collages, etc.
The Poetic Phonotheque is an international archive of multimedia poetry started in 2020 on International Poetry Day to bring poetry in the voice of their authors to an international community isolated by the pandemic. The collection now houses over 500 audiovisual poems from all over the world in various languages. In 2021, Kulturhuset Islands Brygge joined the project to house and feature the collection in Denmark, with a focus on climate, culture, and reconnecting our communities.
The archive was founded by Elizabeth Torres , also known as Madam Neverstop. She is a Colombian/American poet, translator and multimedia artist based in Denmark. Her work intertwines poetry, images and soundscapes with language and performance. She holds an MFA in Media & Film and Fine Arts from Kean University, NJ, and an MFA in Performing Arts from the Danish School of Performing Arts (Writing Specialisation, 2023).
A selection for the Southnord Visual Poetry evening was curated by Elizabeth Torres, founder of the Poetic Phonotheque together with Marcia Harvey Isaksson, founder of Southnord. All submitted poetry films from this open call were invited to be part of the permanent archive of both the Poetic Phonotheque and Southnord.
